Until it was completely destroyed during the 2016 Central Italy seismic sequence, Arquata del Tronto had once been a historical small city built on the hills of the Marche region of Central Italy. Due to the particular nature of topographic formation on fractured rock layers, classical geotechnical interventions are functional up to a certain level. This paper first provides an innovative small-city-scale strengthening solution for Arquata Hill based on a slab-wall system composed of post-tensioning tendons crossing the entire city and, then, illustrates the effectiveness of the solution through the numerical analyses carried out by using the 3D finite difference solver, FLAC3D.

Abstract
Until it was completely destroyed during the 2016 Central Italy seismic sequence, Arquata del Tronto had once been a historical small city built on the hills of the Marche region of Central Italy. Due to the particular nature of topographic formation on fractured rock layers, classical geotechnical interventions are functional up to a certain level. This paper first provides an innovative small-city-scale strengthening solution for Arquata Hill based on a slab-wall system composed of post-tensioning tendons crossing the entire city and, then, illustrates the effectiveness of the solution through the numerical analyses carried out by using the 3D finite difference solver, FLAC3D.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
