Atlantification is the process by which the Arctic Ocean gradually becomes warmer and saltier due to the increased influence of the Atlantic Water inflow. This phenomenon alongside anthropogenic climate change is causing sea ice to diminish in coverage and thickness. The influx of Atlantic Water and the reduction of sea ice are altering the physical and ecological properties of the Arctic Ocean, with several feedback consequences that are still not completely clear. Hence, understanding the temporal evolution of the Atlantification and its relationship with oceanic processes is crucial. Here we analyze and present data coming from different and complementary oceanographic platforms to investigate spatial and temporal variability of the thermohaline properties associated with the Atlantification in the Fram Strait, Greenland Sea, and Barents Sea Opening over the period 1980-2023. By analyzing these signals, trends are identified and discussed.

Abstract
By analyzing these signals, trends are identified and discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
