We will describe the potentialities of the synchrotron-UV resonance Raman (SR-UVRR) scattering technique as efficient tool for the molecular investigation of natural and synthetic polymers. The SR-UVRR instrument exploits the wide and continuously tunable emission of a synchrotron source in the deep-UV wavelength range. This offers the unique opportunity to analyze complex macromolecular systems focusing on specific chromophoric segments whose Raman signal can be selectively enhanced. Selected case studies in the field of polymer characterization will be discussed, including the investigation of the polymer-water interactions in polymeric hydrogels and of the self-assembly of bio-polymers.
