The Web-based European DIrectory of Ocean-observing Systems contains comprehensive and validated information of all ocean monitoring sites operating in Europe on a routine and repeated level. A classification system as well as a global and updated survey of spatial, temporal and parameter distribution of all platform or device continuously operating in the Central and Western Mediterranean region are possible for the first time. The analysis of EDIOS information can provide crucial elements for the development and the improvement of harmonized, unduplicated and cost effective Global Ocean-Observing Systems on different scales according to the different strategic plans.

Abstract
The Web-based European DIrectory of Ocean-observing Systems contains comprehensive and validated information of all ocean monitoring sites operating in Europe on a routine and repeated level. A classification system as well as a global and updated survey of spatial, temporal and parameter distribution of all platform or device continuously operating in the Central and Western Mediterranean region are possible for the first time. The analysis of EDIOS information can provide crucial elements for the development and the improvement of harmonized, unduplicated and cost effective Global Ocean-Observing Systems on different scales according to the different strategic plans.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
