Paracartia grani was recorded for the first time in the Gulf of Trieste in June 2003. The exceptionally high salinity waters and the high values of surface temperature that characterised spring and summer 2003 might have favoured the settling of this species. Its presence may be due to the ballast waters discharged by ships directed to the nearby Monfalcone harbour.
